Exodata

Based in La Réunion, Exodata is a Managed Service Provider (MSP) supporting businesses and institutions in hosting, IT management, and digital transformation.

For several years, the company has used DC Scope® from EasyVirt to monitor and optimise its cloud infrastructure. Building on this experience, Exodata recently took a major step by migrating 2,000 VMs from VMware to the sovereign Vates solution. A coherent path that addresses sovereignty, cost control, and sustainable IT. We spoke with Kévin Sautron, Head of Infrastructure & Datacentres, to understand the reasoning behind this choice and its impact.

You migrated 2,000 VMs from VMware to Vates. What technical, economic and sovereignty challenges guided this decisive choice ?

At Exodata, our role as a multi-territory MSP requires the highest standards for stability, security, and performance of our virtualisation platforms. Choosing Vates VMS was part of a technology diversification strategy, aimed at reducing dependency on a single vendor while maintaining service levels equivalent to what we had previously offered.

We were looking for a solution that is open, sovereign, sustainable, and suited to critical environments, while ensuring:

  • operational continuity for our technical teams (no disruption in usage)
  • a sustainable economic model, with clear licensing suitable for MSPs
  • 24/7 support excellence, essential for operations across multiple time zones

This structural choice allows us to remain competitive, preserve the flexibility of our infrastructure, and align our practices with the principles of sustainable IT.

You were already using DC Scope® before this migration. how did the tool strengthen your ability to take this step with Vates ?

Originally, DC Scope® was not designed to support XCP-ng virtualisation technology. As part of our transition to a sovereign infrastructure, we initiated collaboration between EasyVirt and Vates, with a clear goal: make DC Scope® fully compatible with Vates VMS.

This collaboration quickly evolved the tool, which is now natively integrated into our open-source stack, without functional disruption.

For our teams, this is a major continuity lever: they retained their familiar monitoring environment, with the same interfaces, metrics, and operational routines. No additional training was required, and the tool naturally fit into the new architecture, ensuring a smooth and effective transition.

What tangible results have you already measured thanks to DC Scope® and now with this new environment (optimisation, costs, carbon management, performance) ?

Our priority was clear : no regression in infrastructure management after the technology switch.

With DC Scope®, we maintained:

  • accurate capacity planning
  • a clear view of performance and utilisation rates
  • carbon and energy optimisation metrics integrated into monitoring.

It is this ability to combine technical oversight with environmental performance that makes the tool particularly relevant for us today and in the future.

How does DC Scope® help you integrate responsible digital practices into your cloud services for clients ?

At Exodata, our commitment to a more sustainable digital approach is structured and recognised: we are certified Responsible Digital level 1 (NR1).

In this context, DC Scope® is a strategic tool. It allows us to measure, analyse, and actively manage our environmental impact, directly linked to our cloud infrastructures.

Thanks to its carbon indicators and ability to identify underused resources, we optimise CPU/RAM usage, reduce over-provisioning, and guide technical decisions towards resource-efficient architectures..

Beyond internal usage, it also allows us to provide clients with tangible data on the footprint of their hosted services, promoting transparency and awareness.

By integrating these dimensions from the design phase, DC Scope® becomes a true eco-management lever for our managed cloud offerings.

How does the Vates + EasyVirt combination provide a sustainable foundation for your future ambitions and MSP role ?

Combining a sovereign virtualisation infrastructure (Vates/XCP-ng) with an agile analysis and management tool (DC Scope®) allows us to assemble a cloud stack that is open, operational, and sustainable.

This technological foundation meets current market requirements (reversibility, sovereignty, cost control), while offering the flexibility needed to support clients in their future evolutions.

As an MSP, this alliance positions us as a provider capable of delivering a trusted cloud infrastructure in a managed, local, and long-term engagement model.
